토마소 라우레티(Tommaso Laureti)의 16세기 프레스코는 기원전 496년 로마 공화정과 라틴 동맹이 맞붙은 결정적 전투인 레길루스 호수 전투를 그린다. 이 전투는 로마가 주변 세력 위로 부상하는 전환점이 되었다. 전설적 기록에서는 신성한 쌍둥이 카스토르와 폴룩스(Castor and Pollux)가 로마군을 도왔다고 전한다. 또한 이 전투는 축출된 왕 타르퀴니우스 수페르부스(Tarquinius Superbus)와도 연관되어, 공화정이 군주제를 이겨낸 승리를 상징한다.
