The Golden Plough Sign

69
This 18th-century painted iron sign, The Golden Plough, likely served as a brewer’s emblem on rue de Vaugirard in Paris’s 6th arrondissement. It features the Brewers Star, a symbol from the 14th century. The star, formed by two crossed triangles, represents elements essential to beer production—water, air, and fire—and the processes they enable: germination, fermentation, and saccharification. Acquired in 1887 and restored in 2019.
