Portrait of Georges Danton

69
This portrait (c.1790) depicts Georges Danton (1759–1794), a pivotal figure in the French Revolution. Renowned for his impetuous nature and oratory prowess, Danton became Minister of Justice on 10 August 1792, fervently defending the Revolution. As the movement radicalized, he called for moderation, which led to his arrest and execution for conspiracy on 5 April 1794.
