Marie Antoinettes Chemise from Prison

60
This chemise belonged to Marie-Antoinette during her imprisonment at the Temple in 1792. After leaving the Tuileries on August 10, 1790, without personal belongings, she received clothing from the municipality, including this chemise. Originally marked with a crown and her initials, these were removed and replaced by valet Cléry’s initials. Following the king’s death, the princesses mended the garments, which guards inspected for secret messages.
