Central Marble Floor Panel

This Roman marble floor panel exemplifies the ancient art of opus sectile, a technique where materials like marble are cut and inlaid to create intricate designs. Popular in Roman architecture, it reflects the era's appreciation for geometric precision and luxurious aesthetics. The panel's refined arrangement of colored marbles (porphyry, pavonazzetto, giallo antico, and serpentine) not only adorned the space but also demonstrated the wealth and sophistication of its patrons.
