Cisiarii Mosaic: Central Panel

642
This central composition (2nd c.) from the frigidarium of the Terme dei Cisiarii unites the mosaic’s themes: four muscular figures hold up gate towers, marking roads converging at a symbolic crossroads. Inscriptions nearby name mule teams like Potiscus and Barosus, blending mythic architecture with daily transport. It’s a tribute to Ostia’s cart drivers, elevating labor into civic mythology.
