Fishmongers’ Stalls
This marble counter (early 3rd c.) belonged to the Tabernae dei Pescivendoli in Ostia’s market district. Used for selling and preparing fish, the counter stood beside a tank likely used to keep fish alive and fresh. The setup reflects Roman attention to hygiene, freshness, and the practical demands of seafood trade in a bustling commercial hub.
