Marble Counter of a Thermopolium

This marble-clad counter (2nd–3rd c. AD) belonged to a thermopolium—a tavern serving hot food and drinks. The arched openings held large dolia (jars) sunk into the base to store goods. Combining elegant materials with practical design, the structure reflects the social role of street food in daily Roman life and the urban hospitality of Ostia.
