Capitoline Wolf with Romulus and RemusAntonio del Pollaiuolo
This bronze sculpture, once believed Etruscan (5th c. BC), likely originates from the 11th–12th cc. It depicts the she-wolf nurturing Romulus and Remus, legendary founders of Rome. The twins were probably added in the 15th century by Antonio del Pollaiuolo, emphasizing themes of survival and destiny. Despite its medieval origins, the sculpture remains a powerful symbol of Rome’s mythic past.
