Torso of Dionysus Roman Sculpture
This Roman sculpture (160–200 AD) from the Antonine period, made of Luni marble, depicts Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, theater, and fertility. It shows him reclining on a chariot styled after an Indian triumph. Discovered in late 19th-century excavations on Rome’s Quirinal, Viminal, and Esquiline hills, it exemplifies ancient Roman artistry and cultural synthesis.
