Bronze Statue of a Camillus

64
This bronze statue (14 BC–68 AD) depicts a camillus, a youth assisting priests in Roman rituals. It features silver-inlaid eyes and copper-detailed lips, with proportions reflecting Polykleitos’s Greek art style. The right hand likely held a libation vessel. Misidentified as Constantine in the Middle Ages, this error preserved it from destruction, underscoring its historical significance and artistic fusion.
