The Capitoline Wolf is a bronze sculpture showing a she-wolf nurturing Romulus and Remus, Rome’s mythical founders. Traditionally thought to be Etruscan (5th c. BC), recent studies suggest a medieval origin (11th–12th cc.). The twins, added in the 15th c., contrast stylistically with the wolf, highlighting the sculpture’s layered history. Despite dating debates, it remains a potent symbol of Rome.
