Lion Attacking a Horse Sculpture

65
This sculptural group (325–300 BC) depicts a lion attacking a horse and originates from northern Greece or Asia Minor. First documented in Rome in 1300, it was later moved to the Palazzo Senatorio’s staircase. Restored in 1594 by Ruggero Bescape, a pupil of Michelangelo, it likely commemorates Alexander the Great’s Persian victories, symbolizing Rome’s historical grandeur.
