This bronze statue (1753) crowns the Castel Sant’Angelo, commemorating the legendary apparition of the archangel Michael sheathing his sword to end the plague of 590 AD. Depicted in dynamic motion with wings spread and sword lowered, the sculpture symbolizes divine mercy, protection, and the end of divine wrath over Rome.
