This expressive sculptural group (1400–50), carved and painted in wood, depicts the Virgin Mary and followers mourning Christ’s body. Likely from the Ligurian-Piedmontese or Lombard school, it exemplifies late medieval devotion and regional craftsmanship in northern Italy. The raw emotion and lifelike detail reveal how sacred art embodied collective grief and faith.
