Cupid and PsychePerino del Vaga

323
This ceiling frieze (c. 1530) shows Cupid and Psyche on a canopied bed, with attendants at the sides and rich textiles framing the scene. It forms part of the decorative cycle in the Room of Cupid and Psyche at Castel Sant’Angelo, where mythological episodes structure the painted program. The careful anatomy and staged setting demonstrate how Perino del Vaga adapted High Renaissance language to intimate narrative moments.
