This architectural model (1870s) reconstructs the Mausoleum of Hadrian (2nd c. AD). Originally crowned by a bronze quadriga and surrounded by statues, it symbolized imperial power and continuity. The model reflects 19th-c. fascination with Rome’s grandeur and the use of archaeology to revive lost splendor.
