Hôtel de SoubiseGermain Boffrand
Originally a 14th-c. fortress, the Hôtel de Soubise was rebuilt in the early 18th c. for the Rohan-Soubise family by Germain Boffrand, who gave it its grand classical façade and celebrated Rococo interiors. Seized during the Revolution, it became part of the Archives Nationales. Its courtyard and gardens reflect the transformation of an aristocratic palace into a civic monument preserving France’s memory.
