This 18th c. watercolor manuscript map shows the roads of the généralité of Auch in Gascony, marking villages, fields, rivers, and the Basque coast with meticulous care. Part of the vast Trudaine Atlases , a 62-volume survey of routes ordered by Charles Daniel Trudaine, it illustrates both the infrastructure and the lived landscape of provincial France, a unique fusion of technical precision and cultural memory under the Ancien Régime .
