Golden BullRichard II of England

215
This charter, sealed with a golden bull in 1394, was issued by Richard II of England to protect the priory of Notre-Dame de Royston and the church of Aswell in honor of St Thomas Becket. Unlike common wax seals, golden bulls were reserved for exceptional acts, a tradition of Byzantine origin later adopted in the Holy Roman Empire and England, but rare in France.
