Mochica Running Bird Sculpture

Mochica Running Birds (1–800 AD) is a common theme in Moche art, showing races with humans or anthropomorphic figures having animal traits. Participants carry bags of beans and sticks, wearing elaborate attire and circular headdresses made of copper, gold, and silver alloys. These races symbolize ritual or mythological narratives. Ceramic sculptures and Spondylus shell pectorals highlight the cultural importance of these events in ancient Peruvian society.
