Virú Culture Sculptural Bottles
These Virú culture sculptural bottles (1250 BC–1 AD) depict intimate scenes of a couple in sexual union. One vessel shows vaginal intercourse, the other anal penetration. The man wears face paint and cross-like symbols on his headdress, indicating possible ritualistic or symbolic significance. These artifacts reflect the Virú’s exploration of human relationships and cultural attitudes towards sexuality.
