Huaca Puruchuco

1212
Huaca Puruchuco is an adobe administrative and ceremonial center on Lima’s eastern desert fringe, built by the Ichma in the late pre-Hispanic period and reworked under Inca control in the 15th c. Stepped platforms, patios, and tight corridors choreograph movement through a place where storage, ritual, and governance were inseparable. Tombs and elite featherwork—such as headdresses dated 1200–1532—point to rank, ancestry, and beliefs about the afterlife in Lima’s ancient valleys.
