Chancay artisans (1300–1532 AD) were renowned for textiles like gauzes and tapestries used to wrap the deceased in tombs. Their ceramics, often unpolished and white with black geometric designs, depicted ritualistic scenes for the afterlife. ’Cuchimilcos,’ large figurines of men and women with raised arms, were dressed in textiles and placed in pairs in tombs, reflecting Chancay spiritual beliefs and artistic sophistication.
