Ceramic Bottles with Phallic Spouts

259
These ceramic bottles, featuring spouts shaped like erect penises, were used in rituals related to earth fertilization. Originating from the Vicús (1250 BC–1 AD), Moche (1–800 AD), and Lambayeque (800–1300 AD) cultures, they mimic the penis’s fluid-emitting function. Drinking from the top causes spillage, requiring use of the spout. This design highlights the symbolic link between fertility and ritual practices in ancient Peru.
