Propitiation of the Ancestors, a Mochica practice from the Epoch of Flourishing (1–800 AD), involves symbolic fertility rituals. In these ceremonies, male and female underworld figures engage in sexual acts, including mutual masturbation and kissing, believed to stimulate and release semen, symbolically fertilizing the earth from below.
