Danaid Marble SculptureAuguste Rodin

This marble sculpture (1885–1903) by Auguste Rodin depicts a Danaid, one of the 50 sisters in Greek mythology condemned to fill a leaking vessel eternally. Captured in exhaustion and despair, the figure embodies the futility of her punishment. Rodin highlights the expressive potential of the nude form, blending sensuality with tragedy. Originally intended for The Gates of Hell , it was later excluded. The piece is signed ’A. Rodin.’
