The Old Courtesan SculptureAuguste Rodin
The Old Courtesan, also known as She Who Was Once the Helmet-Maker’s Beautiful Wife, is a bronze sculpture by Auguste Rodin, modeled around 1885 and cast in 1910. Inspired by François Villon’s poem, it depicts 82-year-old Caira reflecting on the decline of the human body and the contrast between past beauty and present age. Originally part of Rodin’s The Gates of Hell, it captures the passage of time and the fragility of human existence.
