Auguste Rodin’s marble sculpture, created between 1882–1889, depicts the tragic lovers Paolo and Francesca from Dante’s Inferno . Initially part of The Gates of Hell , it became an iconic standalone piece. The lovers’ lips never meet, symbolizing their interrupted passion and tragic fate. Multiple versions exist, including a bronze in the Tuileries Garden. The sculpture is celebrated for its depiction of physical love and emotional depth in art history.
