Diquís Stone Sphere

106
This almost perfectly round stone sphere (700–1500) rests among smaller rocks, its surface carefully smoothed. Such spheres were produced in southern Costa Rica by the Diquís culture using pecking, grinding, and polishing of local stone. Their deliberate shaping and placement in groups indicate roles in marking power, territory, and ceremonial space within the social landscape.
