Diquís Crocodile Pendant

This gold pendant (700–1550 AD) from southern Costa Rica depicts a stylized crocodile with an open jaw and ridged limbs. In Diquís belief, crocodiles were powerful guardians of waterways and liminal spaces. As a pendant, it likely served as a protective symbol, linking the wearer to strength, danger, and ancestral authority through the spirit of the river.
