This gold pendant (700–1550) from Costa Rica’s Diquís culture represents a bat with extended wings and bared fangs. Revered for its nocturnal power and association with transformation, the bat symbolized the passage between life and death. Its flight and feeding habits evoked deep spiritual meaning in shamanic rituals.
