This gold pendant (700–1550) depicts a stylized frog crowned with serpentine coils, merging two powerful animal spirits in Diquís cosmology. Frogs symbolized fertility and transformation, while snakes evoked renewal and the underworld. Such hybrid imagery conveyed shamanic authority and the wearer’s link to both earthly and spiritual realms.
