Diquís Village Reconstruction
Pre-Columbian Gold Museum
Set beneath San José’s Plaza de la Cultura, the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum holds Costa Rica’s clearest public record of indigenous life before and through early contact. Its Diquís masterworks from 700–1500 show gold not as currency but as a charged material of rank, alliance, and sacred authority, shaped into disks and animal-human forms that echo myth and power. By linking river nuggets to ritual regalia and to the stone-sphere world that framed Diquís society, the museum restores a foundational past long pushed to the margins.
