This gold pendant (700–1550 AD) from southern Costa Rica shows a stylized crocodile with wide claws and an open, toothy jaw. Its expressive form conveys aggression and supernatural force. Crocodiles were revered in Diquís belief as guardians of watery thresholds and symbols of ancestral strength, often invoked through ritual adornments like this one.
