This fresco (1676) by Giovanni Battista Gaulli portrays an Evangelist, likely John, accompanied by his eagle. A child angel presents a scroll as a sign of divine revelation. Gaulli’s vigorous composition and deep foreshortening exemplify Roman Baroque illusionism, merging painting and architecture to convey the immediacy of sacred vision.
