In this masterful fresco (c. 1679), Gaulli transforms the dome into a vision of divine glory. The Holy Spirit descends in light, while saints, angels, and martyrs ascend in radiant adoration. Below, the cross anchors humanity’s suffering. The illusionistic depth and theatrical light amplify the Baroque aim: to move the soul toward transcendent truth.
