Coyolxauhqui Stone Disk
This volcanic disk (c. 1500) shows Coyolxauhqui, the moon goddess, dismembered by her brother Huitzilopochtli at the birth of the sun. Discovered at the Templo Mayor, it lay at the base of the pyramid, where sacrificed bodies fell. Her fragmented form evokes lunar cycles and cosmic sacrifice at the heart of Mexica belief.
