Tecpatl Knives with Obsidian Inlays

275
These ritual knives (14–16th cc.) were carved from flint and inlaid with obsidian to resemble eyes and teeth. Known as tecpatl in Nahuatl, they symbolized the sacred act of human sacrifice. Some retain traces of red pigment and copal, used to fix them upright in offerings as divine embodiments of death and renewal.
