Sacrificial Knives Representing Ehecatl

These two Mexica knives (15th–16th cc.) come from the offering near the monolith of Tlaltecuhtli . Each blade was ritually dressed to personify Ehecatl , god of wind. The knives, made of brown flint and wrapped in spider monkey skin, feature shell and obsidian earspools, greenstone beads, gold elements, and headdresses with carved bone.
