Sacrificial Knives Representing Ehecatl

These two Mexica knives (15th–16th cc.) come from the offering near the monolith of Tlaltecuhtli. Each blade was ritually dressed to personify Ehecatl, god of wind. The knives, made of brown flint and wrapped in spider monkey skin, feature shell and obsidian earspools, greenstone beads, gold elements, and headdresses with carved bone.
