Amatetéhuitl Chest Ornament
This rare Mexica chest ornament (15th–16th cc.) formed part of offerings linked to Tlāloc. The piece uses amate paper (Ficus cotinifolia ) shaped into layered bands, twisted rosettes, yauhtli flowers, and blue-painted cotton tubes. Known as amatetéhuitl , it marked divine fertility and supported rituals calling for rain and agricultural abundance.
