Xiuhtecuhtli, God of Fire

This basalt figure (c. 1469–81 AD) represents Xiuhtecuhtli, the Mexica god of fire, time, and renewal. Often merged with Huehueteotl, the Old God, he appears here seated and toothless, arms crossed in solemn pose. His name means Turquoise Lord or Lord of the Year, reflecting his ties to cyclical time, ritual flame, and divine order. Traces of red pigment remain.
