St Christopher

This towering sculpture of St Christopher (early 16th c.) carrying the infant Christ over water is tied to Riga’s founding legend. According to folklore, the giant ferryman once carried a mysterious child across the Daugava River. The next morning, he found gold where the child had slept—used to build Riga.
