Praeneste Fibula

113
This small gold fibula (7th c. BC) appears with its inscription displayed below. The archaic Latin text reads Manios med fhefhaked Numasioi (Manius made me for Numerius) and uses a speaking object formula in which the object addresses the viewer. Its language and letter forms offer a rare glimpse into early Latin shaped by Etruscan and Italic influences.
