Praeneste Fibula

281
This small gold fibula (7th c. BC) appears with its inscription displayed below. The archaic Latin text reads Manios med fhefhaked Numasioi (Manius made me for Numerius ) and uses a speaking object formula in which the object addresses the viewer. Its language and letter forms offer a rare glimpse into early Latin shaped by Etruscan and Italic influences.
