The Dying Centaur SculptureAntoine Bourdelle

Antoine Bourdelle’s The Dying Centaur, sculpted between 1911–1914, symbolizes the decline of paganism. Bourdelle identified with the Centaur, infusing the bronze with personal reflection. Two versions exist: one bearded, the other not, each about 14 x 12 x 4 15/16 inches. This work represents a poignant intersection of myth and modernity.
