Le Centaure mourant d’Antoine Bourdelle, sculpté entre 1911 et 1914, symbolise le déclin du paganisme. Bourdelle s’identifiait au Centaure, insufflant au bronze une réflexion personnelle. Il en existe deux versions : l’une barbu, l’autre non, chacune mesurant environ 14 × 12 × 4 15/16 pouces. Cette œuvre incarne une rencontre poignante entre mythe et modernité.
