Ribbed Vaulted Ceiling

Ribbed Vaulted Ceiling

532
Rome’s only Gothic church, Santa Maria sopra Minerva features a ribbed vaulted ceiling (14th–19th cc.), richly painted blue with stars, and polychrome columns. Successive restorations preserved its medieval structure while adding Renaissance, Baroque, and 19th c. elements, blending Rome’s layered artistic and religious history.
