This fresco (1489–93) shows Aquinas enthroned, holding an open book inscribed Sapientiam sapientum perdam (I will destroy the wisdom of the wise ). Below, Sin is crushed under books with the motto Sapientia malitiam vincit (Wisdom conquers malice ). Young figures personify sciences illuminated by his teachings. The fresco celebrates Dominican doctrine triumphing over heresy through wisdom.
