The Vaulted Ceiling
Rome’s only Gothic church, Santa Maria sopra Minerva features a ribbed vaulted ceiling (14th–19th cc.), richly painted blue with stars, and polychrome columns. Successive restorations preserved its medieval structure while adding Renaissance, Baroque, and 19th-c. elements, blending Rome’s layered artistic and religious history.
