Satyr and Youth
This marble relief (2nd half of the 3rd c. AD) from Rome depicts a bearded satyr gesturing toward a youthful figure, possibly Dionysus or an initiate. The reclining figure suggests a festive or sacred context, reflecting late imperial Rome’s taste for mythological themes as moral allegory and elite decoration. It illustrates the era’s cultural blending of myth and social ideals.
